Kinesio Taping
August 30th 2010 -
At Fall Creek Chiropractic we have introduced a new treatment approach to treating many common conditions. It is called Kinesio Tape and has become widely known as a result of recent Olympic athletes utilizing this treatment to assist in their recovery and performance. Although its recognition has occurred due to use among elite athletes, Kinesio Tape has become widely beneficial to those who are experiencing symptoms as a result of their everyday activities.

How does it function? The tape is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused, tired muscles, and to support movement on a daily basis. The tape is placed in a specific manner to create change to the tissue where the tape is applied. It also affects muscle tone, edema, and posture. Traditional sports’ taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during a sporting event, where Kinesio tape is non restrictive, which allows for full range of motion after it is applied. Physiologically, it lifts the skin slightly from the tissue below allowing the body to work in a more normal manner and thus removes the roadblocks that normally slow down the typical healing process. In addition, it affects deeper tissues in the body giving greater muscle contractility and performance. This reduces muscle fatigue, increases range of motion, and provides better quality of muscle contraction. It also provides proper joint alignment by affecting the muscles and can reduce poor function of a joint by influencing opposing muscle groups and joint mobility. Some common conditions it is used for include: lower back pain/strain (herniated disc), knee conditions, shoulder conditions, headaches, hamstring & rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, athletic preventative injury, and as a support method.

At Fall Creek Chiropractic, Dr. Wiggers has been using this technique with much success from those experiencing neck and lower back pain to those with arm and leg symptoms from various injuries. Are you curious if Kinesio Tape could benefit your complaint or benefit your performance? Give Dr. Wiggers a call and inquire about this exciting technique and if it could be of benefit for your daily activities and/or sport related events. It is safe, effective, and is even water proof for swimmers and those who shower on a daily basis.
